About Us

Our adventure started back in May 2007 when my husband, Bryan, and I went on our first backpacking trip along the Appalachian trail. We had only been dating for 2 weeks at the time but knew this was a lifestyle we wanted to create together.

Two years later we were married on June 27, 2009. We continued our adventurous path taking many trips around the United States that included backpacking, rock climbing, caving, camping, kayaking, road/mountain biking, or anything outdoors we could get our hands on. We took on our biggest adventure in August 2013 when our baby girl, Summer, was born. From day one we knew she would not live an ordinary life. At 3 months she was already out on her first hiking trip.

By 15 months she was camping, and 21 months backpacking the Appalachian trail. Now at age 3, she already has a love for the outdoors. To add even more excitement to our family we are expecting another baby girl come May 2017. Even though we are a Florida family it never stopped us from pursuing our mountain dreams.

Meet our Family

Hi, my name is Rachel. Thank you for taking the time to meet our family today. My goal is to inspire other families to live a more fulfilling life by engaging in outdoor activities. By living frugal lives and below our means we are able to enjoy experiences rather than material items. We have proven you don’t need mountains in your own backyard to enjoy what nature has to offer. Most of our hiking is done right here in Florida (we do try to avoid the summer months). We climb regularly at our local indoor climbing gym and live near plenty of water that provides us multiple kayaking/canoeing opportunities. Come follow us on our journey through this life and hopefully pick up some tips along the way.

My husband, Bryan, is a firefighter/paramedic for the city of Orlando. He has a passion for mountain biking, climbing, and mountaineering. This past summer he climbed Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainer. He also has a love for caving and running. Check out his section of the blog, A Male Perspective, where he talks about balancing family life with an adventurous soul.

Our daughter, Summer, loves camping/backpacking. She would sleep in a tent every night if it was her choice. She has already been on sections of the Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail. I hope to thru-hike both of these trails with her one day. Her other favorite hobby around town is climbing at the gym with mommy and daddy. This past year she went on her first caving trip. We love watching her blossom in the outdoors.
